Johns attraction to the breed began over 25 years ago when he purchased his first Field Trial dog in Co. Limerick. This dog was sired by the well known FT Ch. Rathnaleen Raffles this dog was to become the first Pointer that John entered int o the show ring.
In 1997 the first Hurwyn Pointer was purchased from Mrs. Sue Wilkinson . Ir. Sh. Ch. Hurwyn Bit a Lemon was destined for success and it was not long before he gracefully took the title of (Schweppes to his friends) Irish Pup of the Year in 1998. His success in the show ring continue to gain momentum winning many Groups and Best in Shows. After much success and wins under his belt he retired gracefully from the Show Ring in 2003 with the coming of age of Ir. Sh. Ch. Hurwyn Jim ‘n Tonic An. Ch. 03, 04, 05.
In 1989 John and Margaret bought a Show Pointer from the Rossenarra Kennels Rossenarra Farouk. Sadly this dog was killed in a freak accident just months after being purchased. John and Margaret where to continue with this journey and later purchsed two Rossenarra Pointers , a dog and bitch. This dertimation was rewarded as Rossenarra Guy and his litter sister Rossenarra Gigue both became Irish Show Champions and gained their necessary Field Trial accreditation to become full Ir. Champions. This success story excelared as Ir. Ch. Rossenarra Guy went on to acheive many Ch. Group Wins and Best in Show wins.
The success of the Park Point Kennels continued with Jim ‘n Tonic and Ir. Sh. Ch. Hurwyn Whip Crack Away securing many Green Stars and BOB.
In 2003 the first litter of PARKPOINT pointers were born Hurwyn Jim ‘n Tonic x Hurwyn Whip Crack Away. This promising litter produced Ir. Sh. Ch. Parkpoint Gin Fizz (owned by the O’Gorman’s and Parkpoint Rum ‘n Black (owned by Hayley Knowles) A further litter sired by H. Jim n Tonic and out of Hurwyn Sister Act produced PARKPOINT BUCKS FIZZ who has qualified for the Irish Pup of the Year Award 2006. PARKPOINT BACARDI ‘N COKE owned by Emer Bermingham, PARKPOINT ICE ‘N A SLICE, owned by Frank & Madeline Josey.
